Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani was arrested on Friday as he marched towards Dargah Hazratbal today.
The united resistance leadership has called for ‘Dargah Chalo’ today as a protest against civilian killings in Kashmir.
“Police had blocked the entrance of the lane leading to office-cum-residence of Geelani,” sources said, “the police had laid concertina wire just near the police van which has been stationed outside the main gate of Geelani’s residence.”
The eye witnesses said that Geelani along with some of Hurriyat activists and locals started march from his residence around 12:30 Pm when police stopped them.
“It was a peaceful march and Geelani condemned the action of authorities,” they said, “when Geelani didn’t relent to revert back, he was whisked away to Humhama Police Station along with a Tehreek-e-Hurriyat member.”
The government has imposed strict curfew across Kashmir in view of ‘Dargah Chalo’. The Dargah has also been sieged by forces as concertina wires have been laid around it.
Geelani also reacted to the statement of Union Home Minister which he made in SAARC conference held in Pakistan on Thursday.
