SRINAGAR

Strongly condemning the cold blooded murder of Riyaz Ahmad Shah of Chattabal and Farooq Ahmad of Lethpora, PDP leader and MP Tariq Hameed Karra Friday said that these are the glaring examples whereby the claims of forces are exposed when they say that they open fire only in their self-defence.

Riyaz Ahmad Shah, aged 20, whose sister had to be married few days later was returning to his home from his duty when he was stopped by the forces and was brutally beaten first and later on he was fired upon by the pellet gun from point blank range thereby causing his death instantaneously, said Karra in a statement issued to KNS.

Farooq Ahmad Kuchay, aged 32, was a truck driver and a lone bread earner of his family was part of a protestors on Srinagar-Jammu highway near Lethpora, when PSO of ADC Ramban aimed on his head from inside the vehicle in which he was travelling along with the ADC “without any danger to his life”.

This unabated barbaric killings of innocents has proved that the forces in Kashmir have turned trigger happy, which has happened all because of unaccountability.

“Had the government in the very beginning of uprising after Burhan Wani’s killing fixed responsibility on such trigger happy elements in the forces through a commission of enquiry, the others would have deterred for the free killing spree,” he said.

The killings of Amir Ahmad Lattoo of Bijbehara, Sajjad Ahmad Thokar of Utrasoo Shangus, Shabir Ahmad and Hilal Ahmad of Tengpora are the glaring examples of such emboldened trigger happy elements of the forces, he added.

“It is very unfortunate and insensitive on part of the people at the helm of affairs that they still don’t understand the gravity of the slipping situation. There is no serious and sincere effort to dowse the anger of the people in general and the youth in particular,” he said.

“On the contrary, the provocative statements and gestures showered by the responsible people further provoke the masses thereby flaring up the anger.”

“I had already questioned the Home Minister of India as to what would be the status of use of Pellet guns till the committee on looking for an alternative to pellet guns submits its report. Least, he should have done was to ban the use of pellet guns which he did not. This portrays insensitive and casual approach of the BJP government in Delhi towards hapless Kashmiris,” he said.

Karra further termed PM Modi’s silence as “criminal” thereby giving an impression of his “tacit” approval for the barbaric oppression, repression and suppression by the forces on Kashmiri civilians.
