SRINAGAR

Mirwaiz Arrested

Amid curfew, restrictions and curbs for the 28th straight day across Kashmir, the “ruling” class once again displayed its “fascist” mind set to sabotage the ‘Hazratbal Chalo’ program given by the unified resistance leadership and stopped people from offering Friday congregational prayers at Dargah Hazratbal, Jamia Masjid Srinagar, all main Masjids of Kashmir, Khankahs, shrines and Imam Barahs, Hurriyat Conference (m) said on Friday.

Meanwhile, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (m) Chairperson, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and senior Hurriyat leader, Masroor Abbas Ansari tried to break their house arrest and lead marches toward Dargah Hazratbal in Srinagar, they were stopped by a large contingent of police and Indian forces deployed outside their residences and placed under arrest at their respective local police stations, the statement added.

On the occasion, the Mirwaiz while speaking to media persons outside his residence said people of Kashmir and the resistance leadership had planned for a peaceful rally to pay tributes to more than 55 people “martyred” in past 28 days and protest their brutal killing but the government like every other time sabotaged this programme.

Stating that by pushing people more and more to the wall and not allowing them any space to register their protest by using excessive force the authorities were “infuriating” the people and “deteriorating the situation further”, Mirwaiz said, “the policies being carried out against the people of Kashmir clearly shows that Government of India is at war with the people of Kashmir and wants to teach them a lesson.”

Terming the criminal silence of the international community toward the killings and brutal injuries of Kashmiri people for the past month as one of the worst tragedies of the present times, Mirwaiz said, “this should not discourage people from carrying forward the on-going resistance movement and urged them to keep faith in themselves and the Almighty Allah and remain consistent and steadfast in their fight for the Right to Self Determination.”
