A doctors’ body in Kashmir on Saturday condemned the attack on medical fraternity by forces.

A statement issued by Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) this evening said that a meeting was held under its president Dr G M Mir wherein the attacks or harassment by some “miscreants and security personnel” across various hospital premises was condemned.

“A strong resentment in this context has been expressed which the association is going to put forward to Director Health Services, Kashmir and Secretary Health & Medical Education Department,” the statement said, “DAK will stress the authorities that if they want to ensure the smooth functioning of hospitals under these crucial circumstances they have to move way ahead in making our place of postings safe and terror free.”

The doctors body condemned the assault on various medical staff belonging to different hospitals of the valley.

“Barbaric Assaults” and spreading a “reign of terror” at SDH Chadoora, SDH Khan Sahib and Trauma Hospital Kangan is deplorable, the statement said.

“During this uprising, damage to the hospital property to a great extent has been seen also which is shameful. Unruly incidents of teargas shelling at SMHS Hospital have demoralised and frightened the staff there,” the doctors said.

“In no way these savage acts can be justified by anyone at the helm of affairs. Our families are scared of our safety and safe return to our homes once we go on duties,” the statement added. “Hospitals have become battlefield wherein every day we feel we are going to attacked, assaulted or humiliated.”

DAK appealed authorities, public and police department to cooperate with us or else it was impossible “for our already drained and overburdened staff to work under such circumstances”.
