A man was killed when an army vehicle hit a car and killed a man in Bandipora district on Monday.

Reports and local sources said that intense protests erupted in Wangnipora area in Sumbal when a civilian was killed on spot after being hit by an army vehicle.

The slain man was identified as Muhammad Ashraf Mir of Ahan village of Ganderbal.

The car was hit by Army’s Casper vehicle near Wangipora area of Sumbal while Mir was on way to Shilwat.

As soon as th news of the accident spread in the area, people took to streets and tried to set ablaze the army vehicle, reports said.

The protestors tried to set ablaze a bunker of armed police situated near Sumbal bridge, a newspaper report added.

Quoting SDM Sumbal Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, the report said that an FIR has been registered and the driver has also been arrested.

“Army vehicle has been seized. Body of the deceased has been handed over to his family after post mortem,” he said.
