People’s Democratic Party legislator from Tral Mushtaq Ahmed Shah Monday said that popular Hizb commander Burhan Wani was the product of torture and harassment inflicted upon him and his family by previous National Conference-Congress Government of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The harvest that we (PDP) have been reaping in this season was sown by National Conference during their rule. Everybody knows it how National Conference tortured youth, lodged them in police cells and inflicted miseries upon the common people. The anti-youth policies pursued by NC were bound to give birth to people like Burhan Wani,” Shah told news agency CNS adding, “PDP has no ill-will or grudge about Burhan or his family or people who mourn his death.”

He said Burhan Wani was not a terrorist. “People used to love him because of his great and pious character he was possessing. He was kind and pious and being the resident of Tral myself, I know how much people loved and respected him. The people’s mourning over his death can be justified,” he said.

He said that the death of Burhan has given a new lease of life to the “separatist ideology”. “Kashmir issue was on backburner but Burhan gave this issue a new life and now every political party or people affiliated with civil society or any other organizations are advocating its solution.”

“I appeal Jammu Kashmir Police and security agencies to stop nocturnal raid. I also request people to maintain peace. If people want to protest they need to remain peaceful because attacks on police posts and Army camps only lead to casualties,” he said.

Shah appealed administration to help those affected due to cloud burst in Tral. “I am unable to visit the town in wake of current crisis so I appeal the administration to provide all kinds of assistance to the people affected due to cloud burst,” he said.
