Kashmiri Saffron is priceless and popular in South Kashmir, revealed a Parliamentarian as Rajya Sabha is discussing Kashmir uprising on Wednesday.

Earlier, Leader of Opposition in upper house of Indian parliament and former CM of J&K, Gh Nabi Azad initiated debate on Kashmir after Union Home Minister agreed to it on Tuesday asserting that “situation in Kashmir is very serious”.

Azad reiterated his demand for PM’s statement on Kashmir, even as he thanked the government for allowing debate on Kashmir.

“Kashmir was burning ever since BJP stepped in,” Azad told Rajya Sabha referring to the PDP-BJP coalition government in the state.

By 12:30 at least four MPS spoke on Kashmir and all blamed Pakistan for “meddling in to internal affairs of Kashmir” referring to mass civil uprising in Kashmir.

An MP from A Navaneenathakrsihan, representing AIADMK, started his speech singing a Tamil song, translated in English, eulogising Kashmir’s beauty.

He said that Kashmir is a beautiful place and people in South (India) cherish it. “This place (Kashmir) is very popular among Tamils because film makers (Tamil) fly to Kashmir for its beautiful landscape,” he said.

Navaneenathakrsihan said that “India is one from Kashmir to Kanyakumari”. “I belong to Kashmir as Kashmir belongs to me,” he added.

The MP further went to say that saffron which is grown in Kashmir is “very famous in his region”. “The pregnant ladies are being given Saffron so that he they give birth to beautiful babies,” he said.

Participating in debate, Trinamool Congress MP, Derek Obrien said that “Pakistan was behind disturbances in Indian state”.
