Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Choudhary Zulfkar Ali Thursday informed that the Department has ensured that people across valley would get essential supply, and would continue to do the same with people’s support.
Speaking during a review meeting, the Minister said that the Department of FCS&CA works for people irrespective of the situation, an official spokesperson said this evening.
“Our department is directly related with people. Irrespective of weather or political situation our employees have delivered their duties,” the Minister said.
Zulfkar informed the meeting that on daily basis around 800 trucks carrying essential commodities reach valley, and till yesterday around 19,000 trucks have reached Kashmir.
Requesting general public to cooperate with FCS&CA employees, the Minister said that people should ensure that all FCS&CA vehicles are allowed to ply on roads without any hindrance as the sole aim of running them is to ensure that essential commodities reach to them.
Directing the concerned agencies to ensure that stocks of essential supplies are maintained in valley, the Minister said that people should not suffer and for that adequate stock supply should be ensured.
The Minister was informed that 60270 quintals of wheat as well as 465200 quintals of rice are available in FCI go-downs in valley.
He was informed that valley has sufficient stock supply of petrol which can last up to 60 days.
The meeting was informed that for the month of July, 2016, FCS&CA has distributed 437,607 quintals of food grains against allotment of 466,541.
He added that for the current month, so far the department has lifted 207431 quintals of food grains from Food Corporation of India (FCI) go-downs, out of which 1, 10,772 quintals have already been distributed.
During the meeting, the Minister was informed that out of monthly requirement of four lakh LPG cylinders, around 3, 27,000 cylinders were distributed during last month.
The meeting was informed that Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) distributed 1, 84,638 cylinders.
Besides, the oil company for the month of August so far has distributed 87,288 cylinders.
It was also revealed that Indian Oil Corporation of India (IOCL) has distributed more than 98,000 cylinders for last month, while Bharat Petroleum Corporation of India (BPCL) more than 11,500 cylinders.
The meeting was informed that for the current month so far 1, 39,008 LPG cylinders have been distributed.
Giving update on poultry stock in valley, it was said that around 15 lakh birds are available, whereas daily consumption is around 1, 20,000 per day.
The Minister was informed that the local production is around 75,000 while the rest is managed by imports from outside.
The Minister also sought update on availability of mutton and milk in the valley, and was assured that there is no shortage of the two.
