A grenade was hurled at the house of former MLA in South Kashmir’s Shopian district late Thursday night.

Speaking to Kashmir Life, Sheikh Mohammad Rafi said, “it was around 9:15 PM that we heard blast.”

Rafi was an NC MLA and resides in Kachdoora which falls in Wachi assembly segment of Shopian district.

“There is a CRPF bunker guarding my home,” he added, “after the incident, we rushed outside to see what had happened.”

He said, “two unknown motor cycle borne youths had hurled a grenade over the concrete boundary wall which fell in the premises of his residence.”

“The blast damaged my personal care and broke window panes of my house,” he said, “no one was injured, Al ham dulillah!”

Rafi said that he and his children were sitting in the same park where the grenade fell. “But,” he said, “as Isha Namaz approached, we went inside the home.”

Rafi was an NC MLA and before him his father, Shiekh Mohammad Mansoor represented Wachi assembly segment, before being assassinated by militants in the same home.

Rafi regretted that no one from civil or police administration came to see him. “They even didn’t make a call to know what had happened,” he said, “this too seems politically motivated.”
