Union Home Minister chairing a security review meet in Srinagar on August 24, 2016.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh landed in Srinagar on Wednesday forenoon.

He reviewed the security situation at a high level meeting before starting his meetings. He is stationed in Nehru Guest House in the foot hills of Zabarwan.

When Singh reached Srinagar, one youth was already dead taking the toll of civilian killings to 69 since July 09, 2016 when mass protests were triggered after popular militant commander Burhan Wani was killed. Over 8000 people have been injured in the forces actions.

It is Singh’s second two-day visit to Kashmir in less than a month since the renewed mass civil uprising was triggered.

Apparently referring to former PM and BJP ideologue, Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Kashmir mantra, Singh, before flying to Kashmir, took to social networking site, Twitter and wrote, “I will be staying at the Nehru Guest House. Those who believe in Kashmiriyat, Insaaniyat and Jamhooriyat are welcome.”

After Singh’s tweet, many people referred to the ban on internet services in Kashmir and ridiculed the tweet of the Home Minister.

Singh is expected to meet people to “know the cause of the grievances”, reports said.

Reports said that Singh did not choose to take a helicopter ride to the Nehru helipad near the historic guest house where the government held talks with a faction of the Hizbul Mujahideen militant group in August 2000.
