Independent lawmaker Engineer Rasheed led first delegation on Thursday which met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at Nehru Guest House here.

After Rasheed came out of the 37 minute long meet which started at 9:32 AM, his spokesperson, Inam un Nabi, rang up Kashmir Life detailing the points he put before the HM who is on a 2-day visit to Kashmir, second time in last one month.

Inam said, along with Rasheed, his three other party members met Home Minister and briefed him about the “ground situation” in Kashmir.

“People simply want Azaadi,” Singh was told, according to Inam. “Kashmir is not an issue of law and order but that of broken promises.”

Kashmir is an internationally recognized dispute, Rasheed told Singh who was flanked by Union Home Secretary.

“India is committed to fulfil the promises under plebiscite promised to Kashmir,” Rasheed told the meeting, “the issue of Kashmir is not be to be seen as through the prism of law and order and Pakistan sponsored but it is a genuine indigenous political movement.”

Inam while detailing the Awami Ittihaad Party’s (AIP) meet with Home Minister said, “we told Singh that Kashmiris don’t want any solution on communal lines.” AIP is headed by Rasheed.

“Delhi was misled from time to time that Ladakh and Jammu are not with Kashmir but the two regions have showed this time as how they want a resolution on the basis of plebiscite,” Inam said as having told the Home Minister.

There has been no discrimination with Jammu, Rasheed told Singh, “for one and a half districts of Jammu, Kashmir Issue can’t be hanged.” “If there is any discrimination that is with Muslims of J&K as there is meagre representation of Muslims in administration.”

Referring to the outcry by Kashmiri Pandits, Rasheed is said to have told Singh, “why is there no outcry on one lakh Muslims killed in Kashmir since 1990s? Only 209 KPs were killed and there are huge packages.’

Further, Rasheed while detailing the “excesses of forces since 1990s”, he has handed over AIP’s survey of bonded labour by army in Kashmir to Home Minister.

Observing that Human rights violations in Kashmir are “off shoot of Kashmir Issue”, Inam said Rasheed told Singh, “Kashmir can’t be ruled under the barrel of gun but blinding and maiming Kashmiris has only strengthened the sentiment of plebiscite.”

In the end, Inam said that the AIP delegation which included Zeeshan Pandit, Pervez Jamal and Adv Tauqeer as well Rasheed has reminded the Home Minister as how the then BJP led Union government held talks with a faction of Hizbul Mujahideen in 2000.
