A wreath laying ceremony was held in District Police Lines Pulwama on Saturday where floral tributes were paid to the slain SgCt Khurshid Ahmad Ganaie, son of Abdul Aziz, a statement issued by J&K police said this afternoon.

Khurshid was shot dead by suspected militants early this morning.

SP Pulwama Rayees Mohammad Bhat led the officer and Jawans in paying the tributes by laying the floral wreaths on the body of the slain cop, the statement said.

The cop was killed in Quil area of Pulwama district when he was leaving his home for duties.

He was leaving for District Police Lines Pulwama when gunmen fired at him from closed range this early morning.

The deceased policeman is survived by wife, 14 years old son and aged father.

Meanwhile, the JKP spokesperson added that a man ended his life by consuming some poisonous substance in Kulgam district.

A 45-year-old man (name withheld) and resident of Chogalpora, Kulgam consumed some poisonous substance at his home.

He was shifted to district Hospital Kulgam where he breathed his last, the JKP spokesperson said.

After completion of medico-legal formalities the body of deceased was handed over to his relatives for last rites.

A case has been registered in this regard.
