Mirwaiz Umar Farooq being arrested on way to Eidgah on August 26, 2016.

Senior resistance leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday asked people to follow the joint resistance program “in letter and spirit”.

Mirwiaz, it may be noted, has been detained and subsequently lodged at sub-jail at Chashma Shahi.

A statement issued by Hurriyat Conference (m)this morning asked Government “to come clean as to why its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been detained and lodged in sub-jail Chashma Shahi  at this point of time”.

“If according to the Government he is a ‘threat to law and order’, he has been so, for the last 49 days when he was put under house arrest and no one was allowed to meet him and most of his communication facilities snapped or as he is frequently put under house arrest especially on Fridays to prevent him from going to Jamia mosque,” the spokesperson said.

“People want to know from the government as to why Mirwaiz (Umar Farooq) has been detained at this time. They have apprehensions because anything can be expected from the desperate ruling regime to bring back so-called ‘peace and normalcy’ in the valley, crush the people’s revolt and keep them subjugated,” the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson further quoted Mirwaiz as having asked the people to follow the joint resistance leadership programs “in letter and spirit and be vigilant of agents and of rumour mongers”.
