Continuing its crackdown on pro-freedom rallies held across Kashmir since popular militant commander Burhan Wani was killed on July 08, 2016, forces on Tuesday raided one such venue in South Kashmir.

Correspondent reports from Shopian district said that people from several areas were on their way to Wathoo village in Shopian when forces raided the rally venue.

Local populace had planned a pro-freedom, which is a daily affair in South Kashmir, in Wathoo village today, however, forces reached the village early morning.

“The tents which were erected to accommodate people have been brought down and taken away by police,” local reports said, “but people resisted the move and clashes erupted.”

Wathoo is a village around 5 KM away from main Shopian town on Keller road.

Reports said that people from Zawoora, Kellar, Nagbal, Shopian, Shirmal, Kegam and other areas were on their way to the rally venue when the incident happened.

“Forces resorted to intense shelling to break the rally but people are defiant,” reports added.

Intense clashes are going when last report came in.
