An unidentified body was retrieved from river Jhelum on Saturday evening in Srinagar.
Eye witnesses said that a male body, which had stains of blood, was found near Amira Kadal Bridge in summer capital by locals.
Following ‘deal’ in shutdown, business men had just opened their shops in and around Lal Chowk when the incident happened.
As the news spread, the business establishments were closed abruptly down and it created tense situation from Ghanta Ghar side.
After retrieving the body, the eye witnesses said, no identification card or any other item was found in his clothes. Soon, huge number of people assembled forming a big rally.
Eye witnesses said that people offered Nimaz-e-Jinazah of the deceased near Palldium cinema before taking out a march.
“They tried to march towards Eidgah to bury the body but police and CRPF men tear gassed the rally at Hari Singh Street and the body was taken away by police driving it to PCR,” eye witnesses said.
A top police official said, “the body has been retrieved and it has marks of violence.” He had no further information to share.
Huge deployment of police and CRPF has been made in Lal Chowk while shops have been shut and traffic movement on Residency road scuttled. Those who had come to Lal Chowk for shopping or any other necessary work fled to safer places.
