University level teachers based in Kashmir on Saturday formed an association to be known as “joint committee of University Teachers Associations-Kashmir”.
The committee comprises the representatives of the Associations of Universities in Kashmir viz KUTA (Kashmir University Teachers Association), SSTA (SKUAST Scientists and Teachers Association), SVSA (SKUAST Veterinary Scientists Association), IUFA (Islamic University Faculty Association) and CUKTA (Central University of Kashmir Teachers Association), a joint statement issued by the associations said this evening.
The “Committee” in a statement expressed serious concern over the disproportionate use of force against unarmed civilians and sought immediate ban on the use of pellet guns and release of all employees and detainees.
The committee also pressed for a lasting resolution of the longstanding issue of J&K “in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of the state”.
It has been decided that President KUTA shall function as the Chairman of the Joint Committee while the Presidents of the other Associations shall function as Vice-Chairmen, the statement added.
