India’s vocal Muslim lawmaker Assadudin Owaisi entered the sub-jail at Chashma Shahi to meet the detained Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
He was accompanied by anther MP but entered the jail alone.
Reports said that as the duo MPs reached Chashma Shahi, a group of media persons had already managed reaching there.
“Let us make an effort to talk to them,” one of the lawmakers was heard telling media. “Let Hurriyat reject us.”
But within minutes after Owaisi entered the jail, he was out. He told reporters that the Mirwaiz has refused to talk to him. He said the cleric told him that the Hurriyat has decided against meeting them in “such situation”.
New reports suggest that six lawmakers are keen to make efforts to meet the Hurriyat Conference leaders who are mostly behind bars.
They are breaking in three groups of two members each to meet the three separatist leaders. Apart from Sita Ram Yechuri, D Raja, Owaisi, others include Sharad Yadav, Ram Vilas Paswan.
Shabir Shah, one report said, has also been driven to Chashma Shahi.
All the lawmakers are making efforts to meet resistance leaders strictly in their personal capacities. BJP and Congress, as a matter of policy, are not moving around.
