Recalling the contributions of Dr Sarvapalli Radha Krishnan as a teacher and former President of India Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Culture, Tourism, Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks, Priya Sethi, Monday exhorted upon the teachers to follow the principles of such great leaders and become the torchbearers to bring positive  change in the system of education.

The Minister was addressing students and teachers at a function organized by Directorate of School Education, Jammu to mark Teachers’ Day, an official spokesperson said this evening.

The Minister greeted all the teachers for their valuable contribution to the society by imparting knowledge and enlightening the future of the students.

She told them to draw inspiration and follow the footsteps of Dr Sarvapalli Radha Krishnan – who won great name as a teacher and became President of India.

Describing teachers as nation builders, Priya Sethi asked them to supplement the efforts of the government to universalize education and attain the tangible goals.

“The government is committed to provide quality education and bring positive changes in the education sector. The focus has been laid to transform the school education to suit the employability demands,” she said.

Highlighting the role of teacher fraternity, she said only they can bring about the anticipated change and save the students to become powerless and incapacitated certificate holders.

Earlier in her welcome address, DSE Samita Sethi highlighted the achievements of the Department and appreciated the efforts of the teachers.

She also impressed upon them to work with dedication and honesty in their institutions for addressing the quality component of the education and for shaping the career of their students.

Later, Students and teachers of various schools presented a scintillating programmes highlighting India’s rich education culture rooted in pious relation of Guru and Shishya.

On the occasion, the Minister honoured two teachers Ms Geetika from Higher Secondary School Sunjuwan and Kanchan Sharma working with for ‘Swasthya Aur Shiksha’ for their extraordinary contribution in spreading education.
