A youth was shot dead in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday morning.
Clashes erupted in Tukroo area when forces including CRPF and police attacked a pro-freedom rally in Tukroo Shopian this morning.
Dozens of people were injured in forces action and they are being shifted to peripheries of Shopian “as army and CRPF has laid siege around district hospital Shopian”, locals said.
The slain youth, identified as Sayar Ahmad Shaikh, was shifted to sub-district hospital Rajpora where doctors declared him “brought dead”.
“He was hit by tear gas shell,” doctors quoted locals as having said, “he was brought dead to the hospital.” With the death of Sayar, the civilian death toll has reached 79 in Kashmir since July 09, 2016.
Sayar was resident of Ganapora Shopian and was aged around 25.
The doctor said that many injured have been brought to the hospital. “We are facing a huge crisis here,” he said, “many are their way to hospital.”
CRPF, J&K police and SOG men attacked the pro-freedom rally in Tukroo Shopian in South Kashmir on Saturday morning in which many civilians were injured.
Locals of Tukroo had planned a pro-freedom rally today but forces came and attacked it with tear gas canisters and pellets.
The same rally venue was attacked around 9 PM on Friday night and several people had sustained injuries in ensuing clashes.
“But people stayed put and resisted the excesses of people,” local sources said.
They said that people marched towards Tukroo this morning from many villages. “Forces came and again attacked the rally and intense clashes erupted,” locals said, “many people were injured.”
Shopian district hospital sources said that at least six injured persons were brought to the health facility.
