Dozens of people were injured after forces allegedly resorted to indiscriminate tear smoke shelling to foil a pro-freedom rally in Rathsun village of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Sunday.

Reports said that the rally was underway at Markaz-i-Jamia Masjid Rathsun grounds with around 12000 people in attendance when the forces allegedly attacked it.

“Scores of people were injured after resorted to tear smoke shelling on the peaceful Itihaad-e-Millat rally,” said a participant. “The shelling continued for around twenty minutes.”

Reports said that forces personnel torched dozen-odd motorcycles besides the tents erected to accommodate the participants.

Locals added that the forces personnel raided the village at around 2:30 am as well and resorted to tear smoke shelling.

“They created terror in the village, apparently to send a message to people to stay away from the rally,” said a local, adding that they even damaged three transformers.
