Jama’at-e-Islami (JeI) Jammu and Kashmir has taken “strong exception” to the “malicious attempts” of certain New Delhi based media outlets which, instead of discharging their professional duties by dispassionately reporting the ground realities of Kashmir, are “playing in the hands of anti-Islam and anti-Kashmir forces in defaming religious organizations and institutions of the State”.

A statement issued by Jama’at’s Press and Information Bureau on Sunday said, “certain News Channels have started a vicious propaganda campaign against the religious organizations particularly Jama’at-e-Islami and Jamiat-e-Ahle Hadith and are trying to defame them in every possible manner.”

“These News channels are defaming Islam and religious organizations of Kashmir at the behest of anti-Islam and anti-Kashmir forces. India’s policy makers and security agencies have always sought to hide the ground realities of Jammu and Kashmir from the world in general and Indian masses in particular in order to prevent progress of any favourable opinion viz-a-viz resolution of Kashmir dispute. For this, the policy makers of New Delhi have always sought to make scapegoats instead of addressing the root cause of the dispute which is fuelling the recurrent pro-freedom protests and demonstrations in Kashmir,” JeI said.

“Jama’at has started consultations with other member organizations of Majlis-e-Itehad-e-Millat, a united forum of Kashmir’s all major religious organizations headed by Grand Mufti of J&K, Mufti Bashir-ud-Din Ahmed. The forum will soon initiate legal action against these media outlets that have started a defamation campaign against religious organizations, mosques and religious institutions in the state,” the statement informed.

The statement added that Jama’at “appreciates” those local journalists working with these New Delhi based news channels “who have refused to take anti-Kashmir dictates from their bosses in New Delhi”.

“It is the result of honesty and adherence to professional values by these local journalists that the Delhi Bureaus of these outlets were forced to parachute non-local journalist to broadcast propaganda programmes from Kashmir,” the statement alleged.

The statement further said that Jama’at “appreciates” the local media for “discharging their professional duties resiliently in these difficult times, even as many of their colleagues too have been targeted and wounded for forces”.
