SRINAGAR

Moments after 6 PM, Srinagar bounced back to such a normalcy that it looked normal. As shoppers thronged markets, there were traffic jams around Lal Chowk, mostly in Maharaj Bazaar belt.

A trickle of traffic was on roads since morning but it abruptly thinned with the newsbreak that authorities have switched off internet and mobile phones falling in a particular plan.

However situation changed completely at 6 pm when people started thronging the markets in the uptown.

“There is no huge business but there is life,” one major shopkeeper in Lal Chowk said. “Even if people do not purchase anything, at least they are around.”

People, however, were seen seeking certain basic necessities like bread and butter. Not many bakers in the city had made huge preparations for Eid which otherwise is a routine. A major section of the people was out to purchase sacrificial animals.

Within an hour after markets resumed, there were long lines of cars in almost every market in the uptown. Not much activity, however, was seen in the old city that witnessed least vehicular movement.
