Hundreds of people are attending a massive pro-freedom-cum-unity rally in South Kashmir’s Islamabad district.
Reports reaching here said people of Shangran area of Dooru tehsil had scheduled a pro-freedom rally today. But forces raided it this morning injuring many civilians and damaging private property.
“Around 10AM, Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF and police men came and started firing tear gas canisters and pellets indiscriminately,” locals said.
Many people were injured in the forces action. “The injured included two ladies,” they said.
The local sources informed that four injured, including two ladies who were hit by pellets, have been rushed to Islamabad district hospital for treatment. “Others were treated locally.”
“But youths resisted the forces action and the rally commenced in a local walnut orchard where local leaders are addressing it,” they informed.
The locals said that the forces damaged at least three electricity transformers besides private property worth lakhs of rupees.
“People from Zaldoora, Bon, Shangran, Nowpora, Shanker Pora, Dooru are attending the rally,” locals added.
