Top religious scholar and Jama’at-e-Islami (JeI) Jammu and Kashmir leader, Mujahid Shabir Falahi, was arrested by police on Wednesday. Several other Jama’at leaders have been arrested.

Jama’at termed the arrests as “unfair and unjustified”.

“Police and SOG forces today (Wednesday) detained Jama’at leader Mujahid Shabir Ahmad Falahi of Tral before noon, who was on way to home and another Jama’at associate Tajamul Islam Mir of Gulshan-Pora Tral was also arrested at Tral. Tajamul, an associate of Jama’at was erstwhile harassed by police and SOG at many occasions,” Jama’at said in a statement issued this afternoon.

“Thus government forces have unleashed a reign of terror by arresting hundreds of youth in several parts of valley under concocted, baseless and fictitious charges,” Jama’at said.

It is pertinent that police earlier along with SOG forces had raided the house of Mujahid Shabir Falahi at Kamla Tral during the intervening night of 19th and 20th August, wherein forces fired bullets and pellets indiscriminately on his 85 year old father and mother resulting in severe injuries to the duo.

His father Abdul Qayoom Bhat (Rukn-e-Jama’at) who was fired hundreds of pellets on his chest and abdomen by SOG, was hospitalized for several days at SMHS Hospital in Srinagar while as his mother who was injured due to bullet in her arm, was discharged a day later from a local health centre at Tral.

“Police also arrested Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Chisti (Rukn-e-Jama’at) of Charsoo, Awantipora yesterday who has been booked under frivolous charges. Chisti was later slapped by PSA and shifted to Kathua jail which is a blatant violation of human rights,” the statement Jama’at statement said.

The statement said that Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir strongly denounce the arrest of its members and others who have been booked under “false and bogus” charges.

Jama’at urged international bodies to take instant measures for the safety of Kashmiris who are surviving in “tough and harsh” atmosphere made by New-Delhi.
