Noted human rights defender, Khurram Parvez, was shifted to Jammu’s Kotbalwal jail late Wednesday night.

After a Srinagar court ordered his release of Tuesday, the J&K Government on Wednesday slapped draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) on the rights defender.

Khurram is chairperson of Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances (AFAD) and Programme coordinator of J-K Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS).

“He was shifted to Kotbalwal jail around 11 PM on Tuesday night,” wife of Khurram, Sameena Mir, told Kashmir Life Thursday morning. “We have not been told about the grounds of detention about Khurram nor were we given any documents.”

Khurram Parvez was scheduled to attend 33rd session of United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva but he was not allowed to leave India from New Delhi International Airport on Sep 14-15 intervening night.

His flight to Switzerland was scheduled to take off around 1:30 AM but immigration officers citing orders from Intelligence Bureau (IB) held Khurram back. He returned home in the morning wherefrom he was arrested later at on last Thursday night.
