All Parties Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday strongly condemned the decision of the government to ban the English daily, Kashmir Reader, on the ‘ridiculous’ pretext of “inciting violence and disturbing peace”.

Spokesperson of the Hurriyat Conference said, “even reporting facts has now become a threat for the state which wants to put an iron curtain on its repression and hence is resorting to worst form of censorship and gagging.”

“The people of Kashmir are proud of their journalists, reporters and writers who despite such odds are doing their job sincerely and ethically and extend their support to the team of Kashmir Reader,” the spokesperson said.

Expressing strong condemnation over the forces carrying nocturnal raids on the residences of the people, ransacking of household items and beating up of inmates, the conglomerate said, “the government had used indiscriminate force by firing pellets and tear gas shelling peaceful protestors across north, south and central Kashmir to stop people from participating in the ‘Badamvari March’ program in Srinagar and ‘Sopore March’ and sabotage the program called by the unified resistance leadership.”

The spokesperson also said, “the forces had also fired indiscriminate pellets and tear gas shell at peaceful protestors at Radpora, Khanyar area of Shehr-e-Khaas where a 15-year-old Moin Mushtaq Sofi of Rozbal, Khanyar was injured in the eyes after being hit by pellets.”

“In continuation of its repressive policy the government has cracked down on NGOs organizing relief to the injured patients at SMHS hospital in the last three months, seized ambulances run by them and arrested the drivers, which is shameful. Dar-ul-Khair Mirwaiz Manzil which has been a part of the relief work at the hospital has also been asked to stop its work and vacate,” the spokesperson said. APHC strongly condemns this in human policy of the government, he added.

The Hurriyat Conference (m) condemned the vandalism, beating up and burning of paddy crops and structures including cow sheds of locals in many villages in Qaimoh area of Kulgam district.

Mirwaiz led Hurriyat Conference also condemned the killing of former Sarpanch Fayaz Ahmed at Kandizal Pulwama calling it anti-Islam and against humanity.
