Police and CRPF men removed razor wires to make way for a Muharram procession in Old Srinagar on Friday afternoon.
Reports reaching here said that thousands of members of Shia community took out a procession on 5th Muharram today from Saida Kadal.
“Forces were deployed in huge numbers to disallow the procession,” a participant said, “but thousands of people came out and formed the procession which forced forces to make way.”
On Thursday, police and CRPF men had imposed severe restrictions in the area, however, youths had tried to take out procession but they were shooed away.
The Muharram procession will end in Imam Bargah Hassanabad.
