SRINAGAR

In a unique gesture which Kashmiris are abreast with for centuries now, people in Srinagar rescued some army men who were injured in a road accident in summer capital.

A video has gone viral on social media showing a big Indian army vehicle which has met an accident in Lasjan area of Srinagar.

The accident happened early on Sunday on the Srinagar-Jammu highway.

The locals could be seen helping the injured army man to come out of the truck where he got stranded following the accident.

PRO Army Rajesh Kalia confirmed that accident but he did not give any details.

Local sources said that an army vehicle hit a tree injuring an on board army man. “On seeing the army vehicle hitting the tree, almost ten to twelve youths who were standing nearby rushed and saved the army man,” they said.

The incidents in which people of Kashmir helped save men in uniform were seen mostly during 2014 floods.

In the current public uprising, one evening during relaxation period in shutdown by resistance leadership, a lone CRPF vehicle was seen stuck in a water drain in Lal Chowk. The pedestrians on seeing the helpless para-military troopers, joined hands and freed the trapped Jeep.
