Hundreds of people took out a peaceful protest rally in North Kashmir’s Palhallan town on late Monday evening.

Reports reaching here said that as soon as Maghrib prayers ended, people from different lanes came out and a pro-freedom rally was taken out from Raipora which reached Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway.

“Police and CRPF men had retreated to their stations,” a local said.

Amid pro-freedom sloganeering, local sources said, “people blocked the Srinagar-Muzafarabad highway.”

“Traffic came to a halt as people raised pro-freedom slogans,” they said. “Soon many vehicles carrying men in uniform reached the spot and stone pelting started as forces fired tear gas shells to disperse off the people.”

Clashes were going on when last reports came in.
