Hurriyat Conference (m) on Tuesday expressed strong resentment and condemned the continuous curfew and restrictions in most parts of Srinagar and ban on Muharram processions, and arrest of 40 more persons during nocturnal raids.

“Despite strict curfew and restrictions, representatives and activists of resistance leadership people in large numbers attended the Fateh Khawani of the 12-year-old martyr student, Junaid Ahmad Akhoon, killed in indiscriminate pellet firing by the trigger-happy government forces,” the Hurriyat Conference said in a statement issued this evening.

On the occasion, the statement informed, Hurriyat Conference member and Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) leader, Muhammad Shafi Khan, on behalf of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, paid glowing tributes to the little ‘martyr’ and saluted his family on behalf of the resistance leadership and the entire nation.

Khan said, “as people continue to remain steadfast, united and consistent in their resolve, the sacrifices of thousands of Kashmiri martyrs will bear fruit and the resistance movement sooner than later will achieve its objective.”

The Hurriyat Conference amalgam condemned the probation and ban imposed on bringing out Ashoora processions on Muharram-ul-Haram and use of violent force on the mourners and their arrests.

Referring to the Sunday’s incident of Kashmiri youth rescuing an Indian Army man trapped and after a near-fatal accident, the Hurriyat Conference said, “despite the oppression unleashed upon them by the forces, the valiant youth displayed in true spirit their Islamic values: Insaaniyat and Kashmiriyat and demonstrated that their struggle for self-determination was neither terrorism nor aimed against any country or its people.”
