First time in Doda, Muslims on Wednesday held a unity rally in which thousands of people participated. The rally commemorated Youm-e-Ashoora.

Markazi Seerat Committee Doda had dispatched letters to community members including those who belonged to Shiite community. Doda houses a few people from the Shiite sect of Muslims.

The participants raised slogans against the killing of youths and human rights violation in Kashmir.

Kashmir is witnessing a civil uprising from last 3 months in which at least 94 civilians were killed while as thousands of others were injured.

“Thousands of people gathered and participated in the rally near Jamia Masjid Doda where they raised slogans against the killing of youths in Kashmir,” eyewitness said.

The rally marched from main market Doda to Eidgah, protesters raised the anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.

The rally reached Eidgah Doda where speakers, besides other things, stressed on immediate halt to civilian killings.

“Government should stop the human rights violation in Kashmir from last 3 months. India should stop making war like situation in valley,” they said, adding, “issue of Kashmir should be solved by holding dialogue.”

Protesters later dispersed off peacefully near Government Higher Secondary Doda.

The mass protests were triggered in Kashmir on July 08, 2016 evening when the news of popular militant commander Burhan Wani spread.

The protests and shutdown have not stopped since then as shops, business establishments, petrol pumps and educational institutions remained closed, while public transport continued to be off the roads.
