Amid curfew, a dozen Shiite mourners reached Lal Chowk on Wednesday mourning the death of Imam Hussain (RA).

It is tenth day of Muharram – Youm-e-Ashoora – when Imam Hussain was martyred today 1400 years ago in Karbala, Iraq.

A Around noon, today, at least six motor cycles drove on Residency Road waving a flag on which name on Imam Hussain (RA) was inscribed.

The Muharram mourners started their procession from Government College of Education. Clad in black dresses waving flags, the mourners marched on Residency Road towards Budshah Bridge before police vehicles reached the spot.

The men in uniform fired one tear shells before detaining the mourners and driving them to Kothi Bagh Police station but many managed to flee.

J&K Government imposed curfew in many parts of Srinagar in view of the Muharram processions while as ‘Ghanta Ghar’ side of Lal Chowk was sealed for last two days.
