SRINAGAR: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammed Aijaz Asad today held an interactive meeting with prominent religious leaders, Imams, Khateebs, Auqaf members, with an aim to seek their opinion to sensitize the people about the pandemic and the SOPs to be followed in Covid-19 containment.

Mufti Fareed u Din, the CEO of the Wakaf Board, and Dr Syed Hanief Balkhi, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, were also present.

The DC stated at the meeting that religious leaders, Imaams, Khatebs, Auqaf representatives, and management committees of other local Masjids play a critical role in the fight against the new wave of Covid-19 in order to instill a conscientious behavioral shift regarding the importance of wearing masks, maintaining hygiene, and maintaining social distance.

He urged them to proactively educate the public about the importance of following Covid-19 SOPs and getting vaccinated as soon as possible to prevent Covid-19 infection.

The DC stated that the pandemic cannot be won without people’s active participation, and that everyone must take extra precautions and follow Covid-19 SOPs to the letter and spirit.

The Religious Ulmas and Khateebs discussed Islamic teachings and quoted several verses from the Holy Quran about SOPs to follow in the event of a pandemic during the meeting.

They promised the administration their full cooperation in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. They stated that people’s safety is a top priority, and that they will provide full support to administrative decisions aimed at ensuring society’s safety and security.

The participants presented their ideas and recommendations to the DC in order to avoid and contain the new wave of Covid-19. (KNS)
