SRINAGAR: Till 11 am People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) is leading on 27 seats out of 59 trends available so far in the District Development Council polls. Bharatiya Janata Party is ahead on 10 seats; Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party on two seats; Congress on five and Independent candidates are leading on 15 seats.
Meanwhile, as per reports, counting has been stopped in Dragmulla DDC segment of Kupwara district on the directions from the top. The local officials told reporters that the reason is that one of the candidates contesting is from Muzzafarabad region of Pakistan Administered Kashmir.
In a Pulwama segment, reports quoted announcement on the loudspeaker said, as many as 292 votes have been rejected. Details of the segment are not known.
The elections to the first-ever DDCs in Jammu and Kashmir were in eight phases from November 28 to December 19 with 51 per cent of the 57 lakh eligible voters exercising their franchise in the elections. The DDC polls are the first election exercise post abrogation of Articles 370 and 35-A
Mobile internet services have been snapped in south Kashmir districts ahead of counting for District Development Council elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
The internet speed has also been downgraded across other districts of the Valley with 4G services in Ganderbal being pinned down to 2G speed. Reporters are facing problems in adequate coverage in Pulwama and Bandipore.
