SRINAGAR: In north Kashmir Sangrama segment, the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration and Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party suffered a major setback as independent candidate Irfan Hafeez Lone won from the area.
The PAGD had fielded journalist turned Peoples Democratic Party Chief Spokesperson Suhail Bukhari while the Apni party had fielded former lawmaker Shoaib Nabi Lone whose father also a minister was assassinated during 2002 PDP-Congress government.
While Irfan secured 2339 votes, Shoaib was runner up with 2110 votes. Bukhari supported by PAGD was on the fifth number.
Irfan, a social activist, had said, “I have joined the electoral fray to defeat BJP’s proxies in Kashmir.”
