Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) Secretary General and deputy of octogenarian Hurriyat patriarch, Syed Ali Geelani, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai Saturday led “Gaibaana Nimaz-i-Jinazah” (funeral prayers in absentia) of a militant who “slipped to death in a border area of Kashmir Valley”.

Reports said that Sehrai, along with other Hurriyat leaders, led funeral prayers of Mohammad Yaseen Itoo Saturday forenoon.

“Yasin joined Hizb in 1996 and played a key role as Battalion Commander. He was arrested in 2007 and after coming out from detention centre in 2014 again joined the outfit,” Hizb Chief Syed Sallahuddin said in statement to CNS while praying for the departed soul.

He added, “Muhammad Yasin Itoo alias Mansoor of Chadoora Budgam slipped to death in a border area of Kashmir Valley.”

Locals from his native village of Nagam said that Sehrai addressed the mourners before leading the funeral prayers.

After funeral prayers, locals took out a rally from Nagam to Chadoora where police didn’t allow them to proceed. “It ensued in a battle and intense clashes erupted,” one of the locals said.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted in Maisuma area of city when a stone-pelter was arrested. Reports said that shops were closed and youth engaged in clashes with forces.
