Deputy Speaker, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi today stressed that Gurez should be declared as an organic valley, free from all fertilizers.

Chairing a high-level meeting on the activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Gurez valley, the Deputy Speaker said the valley has the potential of producing organic products.

“Topographically, Gurez has different weather conditions and the people living there are rich in producing the organic fertilisers by their own which can revolutionize the market by producing the organic farming like potatoes, maize, peas,” he said.

He also directed the officials for early completion of separate KVK in Gurez valley which was earlier sanctioned by the Government of India.

The Deputy Speaker was informed by the VC SKAUST that very soon off-season pea cultivation will be started in Gurez which can then feed the rest of the country apart from the Kashmir Valley.

“Scientists have been already sent to Gurez, where we will soon have an apple, apricot and walnut villages. Also, a Hi-tech green poly house will be given to Gurez,” said VC SKAUST.
