SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq on Wednesday expressed concern over reports of a drone attack near the Holy City of Makkah Al-Mukarramah.
In a post on X, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq described the reported incident as disturbing and said it had caused concern among Muslims worldwide.
“With the region already reeling under prolonged conflict, all sides must exercise restraint and urgently return to dialogue and diplomacy,” he said.
The remarks came amid heightened tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis after Riyadh said it had intercepted a Houthi drone before it could reach Makkah.
Following the reported incident, Saudi Arabia activated an aerial threat alert over the holy city for the first time, according to reports.
Saudi authorities also warned that any attack targeting Islam’s two holiest sites or pilgrims would constitute a “red line” and said necessary deterrent measures would be taken against the Houthis.
