In a statement, the OIC General Secretariat said the alleged attacks sought to “terrorise civilians, violate the sanctity of holy sites and mosques, and provoke the feelings of Muslims around the world”.

The organisation said attacks against holy sites, mosques and civilian infrastructure amounted to terrorism and were contrary to Islamic values as well as international norms and laws.

The OIC said any breach of the sanctity of holy sites was “a transgression that cannot be accepted or tolerated”, stressing that those responsible should be deterred.

The organisation also expressed “full solidarity” with Saudi Arabia and supported measures taken by the kingdom to safeguard the holy sites and civilians, besides protecting its security and sovereignty.
