SRINAGAR

Delhi-based academic and researcher, Madhu Kishwar Saturday said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir be given right to decide their future.

“I am not against granting right to self-determination (RSD) to Kashmiris,” she said addressing First Media Summit in Srinagar. “But granting RSD should not be biased; every community has to be included.”

Kishwar further said that RSD should be held in Pakistan administered Kashmir and parts of Kashmir which are under Chinese occupation.

Participating in the discussion, noted journalist and author, Kuldip Nayar said that India won’t Give Independence to Kashmir. “Kashmir has acceded to India and that is final,” he said.

Nayar detailed his becoming journalist and how he shot to fame when detained by the Indian PM Indira Ghandhi during emergency years. “I became journalist by chance,” he said while speaking at the First Media Summit in Srinagar. “I am quite thankful to PM Indira Ghandhi who ordered my detention.”

Nayar also said that his becoming an English journalist is linked to Hasart Moohani’s advice. “Hasrat sahib told me to switch over to English as he feared about future of Urdu language in post partition India.”

Nayar also revealed his “solution” to Kashmir imbroglio and said, “defence and foreign affairs should be managed by Pakistani and Indian governments in respective regions of Kashmir and rest should be managed locally.”
