According to multiple media reports, Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh on Monday deferred the matter concerning the Member of Parliament from Baramulla constituency, who has sought either interim bail or custody parole to participate in the ongoing session. Rashid’s counsel, Vikhyat Oberoi, submitted that his client should be granted interim bail to attend the parliamentary proceedings.

Alternatively, he argued that Rashid could be allowed custody parole without being required to bear the travel expenses. However, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) opposed the plea.

Engineer Rashid has been lodged in Tihar Jail since 2019, following his arrest by the NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with a 2017 terror funding case.

He was chargesheeted in October 2019, and in March 2022, an NIA court framed charges against him and others under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging war against the government), and 124A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as under various provisions of the UAPA related to terrorist acts and terror funding.
