SRINAGAR: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday accepted the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar. The approval has been sent to the Home Ministry, and a formal notification will be issued shortly.

The 74-year-old’s resignation, announced on Monday, came as a surprise, as he had chaired the first day of the Parliament’s Monsoon Session as Rajya Sabha Chairman.
In his letter to President Murmu, Dhankhar cited health reasons and medical advice. “To prioritise healthcare and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution,” the resignation letter stated. The letter was posted on the Vice President’s official X account.
The resignation surprised several political leaders, as Dhankhar had presided over Rajya Sabha proceedings during the first half of Monday.
Dhankhar assumed office as Vice President on August 11, 2022, succeeding M. Venkaiah Naidu.
