20160318_135739Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) workers and activists Friday protested in Sopore against the continuous detention of SAR Geelani and party chairperson Shabir Ahmad Shah.

A party statement issued here said that soon after the Friday prayers, Freedom Party district president Kupwara, Peer Inayatullah addressed a public gathering at Khanqah-e-Sopore and led protests against the continuous detentions of Shabir Ahmad Shah and SAR Geelani.

The protestors, carrying banners raised “pro-freedom” slogans and demanded the release of Shah and Geelani. Shah was arrested on February 25 in a night raid and since then continues to be lodged in Rajbagh police station.

The spokesperson while criticizing the state administration said every peaceful political activity has been banned and the career of youths destroyed by arresting them.

“Shabir Ahmad Shah’s detention is unlawful and unjustified as authorities have no court orders for his arrest. Similarly, SAR Geelani has been booked under false charges and is being subjected to political vengeance.”

Meanwhile the spokesperson also paid tributes to militants killed in a gunfight with government forces at Rajwar in Handwara. “We are committed to take their mission forward”.

A party delegation of DFP led by general secretary Moulana Abdullah Tari visited the bereaved family of Omar Sadat who passed away on Wednesday in New Delhi after brief illness.

The delegation expressed condolence with the bereaved family and Advocate Zaffar Shah, who is the uncle of deceased, and prayed for strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
