SRINAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Chowdhary escaped unhurt after his vehicle was struck by a landslide on the Jammu–Poonch Highway near the Chingus area on Wednesday, as heavy rain continued to trigger landslides and shooting stones across the Jammu region, officials said.
According to officials, the Deputy Chief Minister’s vehicle sustained damage when a landslide hit the highway, but Chowdhary was unharmed.
In a separate incident on the same highway, the vehicle carrying National Conference Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmed became stranded in an active landslide. Officials said the MP also escaped without injuries.
Following the incidents, authorities rushed men and machinery to the affected stretch to clear debris and restore traffic movement.
Officials have advised commuters to avoid non-essential travel on hilly roads as persistent rainfall continues to trigger landslides, mudslides and shooting stones at several vulnerable locations across the Jammu region.
