Braving incessant rains thousands of people including women on Friday morning attended the funeral prayers of slain Tehreek Ul Mujahideen militant Naseer Teli at his native village Gulabad Arampora.

Teli, who according to police was killed in a late-night shootout at Sagipora area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

An eyewitness said that thousands of people braving rains assembled in Chinkipora area of Sopore to take part in the last rites of Teli.

A large number of mourners shouted pro-freedom slogans while carrying Teli’s body in a procession to the martyrs’ graveyard for burial, he said.

Earlier authorities have suspended the Internet service and close down all educational institutions in Sopore division on today as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, latest reports suggest that clashes between the government forces and people were also reported from Arampora Sopore.
