SRINAGAR

Strongly condemning the registration of “Murder Charges” against JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik and his other associates and shifting them to the Srinagar central jail, Chairperson All Parties Hurriyat Conference (g) Syed Ali Geelani Monday said that the BJP-PDP coalition government has converted the Jammu & Kashmir into a “major jail and they are subjecting the pro-freedom people to the political vengeance”.

Geelani also condemned the detention of prominent lawyer Shabir Ahmad Bakshi (Kreeri).

Demanding immediate release of Malik, Showkat Ahmad Bakshi, Noor Mohammad Kalwal, Sheikh Abdul Rasheed, Bashir Kashmiri, Ghulam Mohammad Dar, Nazir Ahmad Rather, Ishfaq Hussain, Muneeb Javaid and all other political prisoners, Geelani said, “this government policy will have serious consequences and it will also increase the political uncertainty and instability in the state.”

The octogenarian Hurriyat chief said, “there is ‘Jungle Raj’ like situation in the state. Mohammad Yasin Malik and his other associates were protesting against the three innocent killings in the Rajouri district of the Jammu division at the hands of the VDC terrorists. Instead of putting VDC terrorists to task and disbanding this illegal armed force, the state government on the directions of the communal forces started to tighten their grip on the pro-freedom people and have registered murder charges against them. This is the extreme of the lawlessness and it has no justification.”

However, a Hurriyat (g) statement said, “Geelani cautioned the government that these kinds of cheap tactics will not deter the pro-freedom leadership and they will continue to register their protest against the oppression and the state terrorism of the government.”
