Director General of  Police(Prisons) V K. Singh, IPS, on Monday, paid a visit to Central Jail Jammu, Kotbhalwal and district Jail, Amphalla to review the security of these jails and to assess the services and training opportunities provided to the inmates.

DG Prisons visits Jammu jails; reviews security arrangements

A spokesman said that Superintendent Central Jail Jammu, Kotbhalwal, Dinesh Sharma/Superintendent District Jail Jammu, Saleem Ahmad Beig, other Officials of the Jail and CRPF besides Medical Officers were present during these visits.

“The DGP Prisons inspected all barracks, CCTV Control rooms, hospitals, reformation blocks, kitchen& other sections in both the Jails. He interacted with the inmates regarding basic facilities available to them &educational/vocational programmes running in the Jails. He asked the Jail Superintendents to take necessary measures for improving the facilities in Jails and passed instructions for further toning up the efficiency and management,” said the spokesman.

“The Director-General was very happy to note the progress made in reformatory activities & asked the Superintendents to upgrade these programmes for the welfare of inmates,” he said.

He said that the DG took a Darbar of the Prisons staff and attended to their grievances. He emphasized that prisons are not just detention centers but correctional homes as well and as such the staff must put in their best efforts to ensure foolproof security and quality correctional programmes. He asked the staff to work together with more dedication towards the Departmental objectives.

“During his visit to District Jail, Amphalla he visited the Departmental Museum located inside the jail where Prison related artefacts and historical documents are preserved. He passed on spot directions to the Technical wing to improve the infrastructure of a female block in Amphalla jail,” he said.

He said that the Director-General discussed the general health condition of inmates and Diet with the Medical Officers in both the Jails & checked the quality of food being provided to the inmates. He reviewed the ongoing construction works& asked the concerned to ensure quality and pace.

“Later today, he visited Retail Outlet of the Department ‘SudharBikri Kendra’ located adjacent to District Jail Amphalla where Prison manufactured goods are put to sale,” said the spokesman.
