After the death of a Pakistani prisoner in Jammu jail, Director General Prisons K Rajendra Kumar Saturday visited Kot Bhalwal Jail to review the security of prisoners. He interacted with inmates of the prison as well.

Talking to a local news agency, KNS Rajendra said that some prisoners who were on fast against the killing of their colleague Sonaullah ended their fast after given assurances to them. “I told them that whatever genuine demands they have those will be fulfilled. There are 17 Pakistani prisoners in the jail and we had meals together on Saturday. I instructed the jail authorities to have humane attitude towards the prisoners,” he added.

Accompanied by DIG Jammu, Shakeel A Beig, Additional SP Rural Jammu, Rajesh Sharma and SDPO Akhnoor, he held detailed discussions regarding the problems faced by local as well as foreign prisoners including Pakistani prisoners and inquired their welfare.

As per a statement DG has assured the inmates that all necessary assistance as covered under Jail manual shall be provided to them. The DG Prisons also inspected almost all the barracks of the Jail and Administrative block of Kot Bhalwal Jail and passed on the directions to the concerned officers to remain extra vigilant and have close watch on the activities of the jail inmates in future in order to avoid any untoward incident inside jail premises.

The DG Prison said he will visit Kathua jail on Monday. “Earlier I visited Baramulla jail and Central Jail Srinagar to assess the situation,” he added.
