SRINAGAR: The Director General of Police, J&K, Dilbag Singh, has sanctioned Rs 1.60 crore as Special Welfare Relief for the Next of Kin (NoK) of deceased police personnel/SPOs who passed away while in service.

The amount is sanctioned from the Contributory Police Welfare Fund and is one of the various welfare measures undertaken by the Police Headquarters to provide financial assistance to the families of deceased police personnel/SPOs.

A special welfare relief of Rs 22 lakh each has been sanctioned in favor of the dependents/legal heirs of deceased Police personnel ASI(S) Omar Ghaffar Malik, HC(Tel) Janak Raj, SgCt Nazir Ahmad, Mohd Lateef, and Ct Dheeraj Pagotra, as well as followers Naresh Sharma and Kewal Krishan. These individuals passed away due to illness while in service.

Rs one lakh each has already been paid to the families/NoK of the deceased personnel as immediate relief by the PHQ through their concerned Unit/Wing.

The DGP has also sanctioned Rs 6 lakh in favor of the family/legal heirs of deceased SPO Paramjeet Singh, who passed away while engaged with the Police department. Out of this amount, Rs 50,000 has already been paid to the family/NoK as immediate relief for performing the last rites. The financial assistance has been provided from the Contributory Police Welfare Fund of SPOs.

The Police Headquarters is running various schemes for the welfare of its personnel and their families. These schemes include support for the wards of police personnel and SPOs, as well as schemes for the NoKs of martyrs and their wards. Additionally, there are schemes in place for retired police personnel and their families.
