The Director General of Police (DGP) K. Rajindra Kumar Tuesday said investigation into the killing of a person in Sopore has been started and in near future the Police shall come up with the details.

“We have started investigating the issue and details are awaited. I can tell you that soon we will be able to declare further course of action,” state police chief told KNS over phone.

Unidentified gunmen Tuesday shot dead a member of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Altaf Ahmad Sheikh, 35 was on his way to his office when gunmen fired several shots at him at New Colony in Sopore town – 52 kilometres North of Srinagar. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. His father Mohammad Yousuf Sheikh is a prominent activist of Jama’at-e-Islami. An employee in Jammu and Kashmir Health Services, Sheikh was a resident of Iqbal Colony.

The Director General of Police while refusing to divulge any further information said that till the investigation into Altaf’s killing is completed, no final word can be given over the issue.

“We just began the investigations. Nothing over it can be said yet. Let us wait till the investigations are over,” Rajindra said.
